چکیده

Abstract Background Autonomic dysfunction has been implicated in the pathophysiology of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). Butyrylcholinesterase (BChE) is an enzyme cholinergic system, a major branch autonomic and may provide measure (dys)function. This study was undertaken to evaluate BChE infants young children who had died from SIDS or Unexpected Death. Methods We measured specific activity (BChEsa) eluate 5μL spots punched dried blood (DBS) taken at birth as part newborn screening program. Results for each 67 SUDI deaths classified by coroner (aged 1 week – 104 weeks) = Cases, were compared 10 date - gender-matched surviving controls (Controls), with five cases reclassified meet criteria SIDS. Findings Conditional logistic regression showed that groups where reported “SIDS death” there strong evidence lower BChEsa associated death (OR=0·73 per U/mg, 95% CI 0·60 0·89, P=0·0014), whereas “Non-SIDS group no linear association between (OR=1·001 0·89 1·13, P=0·99). Conclusion BChEsa, DBS 2-3 days after birth, babies subsequently other Non-SIDS deaths. conclude previously unidentified deficit, identifiable abnormal present represents measurable, vulnerability prior their death.

Sudden Infant Death Syndrome and Sudden Unexpected Infant Death

Sudden infant death has haunted humanity since Biblical times, and many people are still confused about how to differentiate sudden infant death syndrome from other causes of sudden infant death, such as myocarditis or congenital heart disease. Because of the difficulty of diagnosis, the authors say that SIDS has become a “diagnostic dustbin,” but unnecessarily so. They provide the diagnostic c...

Sudden Infant Death Syndrome: A Review.

Sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) is the sudden unexpected death of an apparently healthy infant younger than age 12 months whose cause of death remains unknown despite a thorough death scene investigation, a review of the clinical history, and an autopsy. Despite the huge achievement of the Back to Sleep program, SIDS remains one of the leading causes of infant death in the United States. In...

Sudden Infant Death Syndrome: Gene–Environment Interactions

Sequencing of the human genome has resulted in a rapidly expanding understanding of the molecular basis of many human diseases and the incredible complexity of genotype–phenotype relationships. Some genes are expressed only in healthy individuals or in disease conditions, only at specified ages, or in response to specific perturbations or states (e.g., sleep). Some genes, thus contribute to sus...
